to the day. dim felt it. had the seat warms on and -- definitely felt t had the seat warmers on. it is thursday, friday eve. let's get right to the satellite. it is our top story, an important story. there is, i love it. we have clouds out there at the moment. it is quite cold out again with temperatures right now in the 30s to about 40 here in the city. going to be another cool day with highs in the upper 40s to about 50 so bring along a jacket. we'll have more clouds in the forecast than yesterday. you can see the clouds kind of streaming in from the north and we are getting a little bit of moisture here off the ocean. mostly cloudy day. i don't think we'll see much in the way of rain. we are going to have the clouds around that. will lock in the cool temperatures for the day. your thursday forecast, mostly cloudy, high temperatures, upper 40s to about 50. right now, we are back in the

county deputies went to serve a temporary peace order at a home in east riverdale. investigators say a woman allowed a deputy into the home and then while talking to her, a man suddenly and with a gun. the deputy shot the unidentified 39-year-old man who later died at the hospital. investigators are still looking for the man who shot a wal-mart employee in laurel. there is the suspect on surveillance images right there. take a look. you can see. the incident occurred just after 4:00 a.m. yesterday. the suspect took cash from the store before shooting the victim outside in the parking lot. police also responded to a car fire in a nearby neighborhood shortly after that and believe it was the suspect's getaway car. the employee is now recovering at the hospital. the latest developments now in the ongoing saga involving david petraeus. we will hear from him about the deadly attack on the u.s. consulate in libya and the u.s. response. the former cia director has

agreed to testify on the incident before house and senate intelligence committees. jean martirez had been reluctant to testify as he deals with the onfog sex scandal but mounting pressure from congress appears to have changed his mind. reports say he will testify behind closed doors tomorrow so there we'll nobody cameras allowed. we are also learning more about the woman involved in the scandal. the army has suspended paula broadwell's security clearance. she is the biographer accused of having and pair with petraeus. jill kelley is said to have called the fbi after receiving threatening e-mails from broadwell that sparked the investigation. we are told kelley and her husband have a close relationship with petraeus and his wife and that the kelleys are in major debt, owing more than $2 million on a building they used to own. the military sex scandal and the benefit ghazi tax were among the hot button topics

30 in hagerstown. we are below freezing further off not north and west. after a cold start, we'll be cool this afternoon with a combination of winds out of the north and north and east and cloud cover. it is going to kind of lock in that cool feel for the day. what's happening? got a little of what we call upper level trofimoffing through just a little piece of energy strolling through at the moment. that is giving us the cloud cover along with the rain showers down in the carolinas. this rain shower won't get in here because of high pressure off to the north. it is kind of blocking that moisture from making it too far north and this is going to get pulled out to sea. the bottom line for us, plenty of clouds in the forecast today. i think you might see a peek or period of sunshine from time to time but the trent will be more clouds than sun. we'll keep the cool temperatures around for the day. you get into tomorrow, more sunshine and a gradual warm-up. not going to be terribly warm and here to start the weekend. i think we'll be back in the mid-50s by saturday. 50 today. still cool for this time of

centreville. no problems to report westbound as you continue out towards gainesville. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. you know how people pick their colleges based on this is the best college for this and we are ranked this and ranked that. >> it is huge a big deal. >> a lot of people write those checks based on that. an assessment on the george washington university campus is causing quite the uproar after the university was taken off the u.s. news and world report's list of the nation's best colleges. >> the university admits a mistake in calculating the high school class rankings of incoming freshmen. bob barnard explains. >> reporter: on gw's foggy bottom campus, students were coming up to us asking if the university's ranking scandal was what we were here to talk about. >> i think it is upsetting because it is kind of deceiving. >> i think it is like a decade- long mistake just in the methodology. that is a little bit disconcerting. >> reporter: in its september issue, u.s. news and world

report released its annual ranking of the nation's colleges placing gw51st on that prestigious list. after university officials recently told the magazine it was overreporting by 20% the number of freshmen ranked in the top 10% of their high school classes, u.s. news wiped gw off the list. >> it is a little embarrassing that the admissions staff did mess up a lot. they said 78 and it was actually 58. that is a bigger. >> reporter: >> reporter: according to bob morse, the magazine's director of data research, this unranked status will last until next fall's publication of the 2014 edition of the best colleges rankings an until george washington confirms the accuracy of the school's next data submission in accordance with u.s. news' requirements. >> there are some students that are extremely hurt and upset and feel like they've been deceived is like the perfect

leading cause of cancer death s among u.s. women. just one week to go before thanksgiving and that means a lot of holiday shopping for folks looking to cash in on the black friday deals. this year, the bargains are beginning earlier than ever. we have a report. >> reporter: every year, people line up early to get those black friday sales but this year, black friday is starting on thursday and stores will be opening earlier than ever. >> we want to show early. they want to shop early. >> reporter: for the first time, wal-mart, sears and toys r us will open at 8:00 p.m. on thanksgiving night. target will open at 9:00. best buy, sports authority, macy's and kohl's will open at midnight. that is more stores opening on thanksgiving than last year and earlier hours showing the serious competition for your dollars. >> other places are doing t you better do it because otherwise, they won't have any money left when it comes time for your opening. >> i think it is a positive thing to do. >> reporter: some shoppers are thrilled.
